Letze Woche - Last week

Gerade mal einen Monat hier und schon wird der Blog vernachlässigt. Ich muss aber auch sagen, dass ich eigentlich nur arbeiten war oder mit den Kollegen das ein oder andere Bier getrunken habe.

Mittlerweile bin ich auch Mitglied in einer Student Nation, das ist so etwas wie eine Brudernschaft nur ohne den ganzen seltsamen Beigeschmack. Die meisten sind ohne Wohnmöglichkeit und nehmen beide Geschlechter an. Die 13 Nationen organisieren sich als Student Union, quasi dem Studentenwerk. Diese Nationen werden von Studenten geführt und funktionieren ähnlich wie ein Studentenwohnheim. Es gibt verschiedene Clubs in denen man mitmachen kann, Chöre, Tanzen, Sport usw. und Bars und die Verwaltung die Mitarbeiter brauchen. Hauptsächlich tritt man bei weil man dann zu allen Nations Zutritt bekommt und hier gibt es Bier wesentlich günstiger (fast zur Hälfte) und auch günstigeres Essen. Ich bin in der Smålandsnation, denn die haben auch Stipendien für Doktoranten, bei denen man sich für Reise- und Kurskostenerstattung bewerben kann.

Das andere Highlight dieser Woche war eine sterbende Blindschleiche neben der ich 5 Minuten fasziniert stand weil ich es für einen riesigen Wurm hielt (Ich habe keinen Kopf gefunden). Zum Glück hab ich ja Biologen die mir erklären können was das war.

I have just been here a month and I am already neglecting this blog. But I have to say that I have only been working or was out for a beer with my collegues. 

By now I am a member of  a student nation, something like a fraternity but less weird. Most don't have student housing and they all accept both genders. The 13 Nations are organized as one Student Union. The nations are lead by student and offer different clubs that you can join, such as dancing, sports, choirs and so on. There are also pubs that need helpers or you can become part of the administrating staff. Mainly you enter the nation because you can then visit all the nations pubs and they have cheaper beer (by almost half) and cheaper meals. I became part of Smålandsnation, because they have funding for PhD students. 

The other highlight of the week was a dying blindworm that I was watching very fascinated for 5 minutes because I thought it was a giant worm (I couldn't find a head). But my biologist collegues were able to explain to me the next day, that it was actually a snake.
