Alles mögliche - Everything else

So, lange nichts mehr von mir hören lassen. Aber wenn man es einmal verpasst, dann ist es so schwer wieder anzufangen. Ich habe im Moment sehr viel zu tun. Einige meiner Proben haben nicht so gewollt wie ich und nun muss die Hälfte der Laborarbeit wiederholt werden. Das Ganze natürlich mit Zeitdruck weil ich gerne vor Weihnachten damit fertig wäre so dass ich weiß ob ich die ersten Ergebnisse schon im April auf einer Konferenz präsentieren kann. 

Well, no news from me in a while. But once you let it slide, it's hard to pick up again. I also have a lot of work to do right now. Some of my samples didn't do what they were suppossed to, so I have to repeat half of my initial lab work. All of that with time pressure of course, because I want to have it finished so I know if I can present the first results at a conference in April. 

Andi hat mich auch endlich besucht. Gut das ist jetzt auch schon wieder ein Monat her. Leider hatte ich wegen der ganzen Arbeit nicht so viel Zeit für ihn und wurde dann auch noch krank, aber wir haben es am Wochenende an einem Tag geschafft, Gamla Uppsala anzusehen und an dem nächsten nach Stockholm zu fahren und uns das Vasa Museum anzusehen. Gamla Uppsala ist das ursprüngliche Uppsala als es noch ein Wikingersitz war. Dort sind große Hügelgräber von Wikingerkönigen und nebendran gibt es ein kleines, aber sehr schönes Museum. Im Vasa Museum ist das Kriegsschiff Vasa ausgestellt, das 1628 im Hafen von Stockholm gesunken ist. Sehr eindrucksvoll und das Museum lohnt sich sehr. Andi hat die Fotos...

Andi finally came to visit. Alright it has been a month since, already. Unfortunately I didn't have a lot of time for him because of all the work and I also got sick. But we managed to visit Gamla Uppsala one day on the weekend and the next day to visit Stockholm and see the Vasa museum. Gamla Uppsala is the ancient Uppsala when it was a seat for Vikings. There are grave mounds of Viking kings and a small but very nice museum beside those. The Vasa museum shows the warship Vasa, that has sunk in the harbor of Stockholm in 1628. It is very impressive and the museum is worth a visit. Andi has all the pictures...

Zwei weiterere Kollegen haben in den letzten Wochen ihre Doktorarbeit verteidigt.  Die anschließenden Partys sind echt lustig, vor allem weil irgendwann alle tanzen, sogar die Leute die normalweise nicht tanzen und lieber an der Bar stehen. Und auch die Professoren! Und jeder so verrückt wie er nur kann! 

Two more collegues have defended their doctoral thesis in the last weeks. The parties afterwards are awesome, especially because it all ends in everyone dancing. Even the people who usually don't and rather stay close to the bar. And also the profs are dancing! And everyone in the most crazy way as possible!

 

Letzte Woche haben wir Sonntags Thanksgiving wiederholt. Da das auch der erste Advent war gab es im botanischen Garten ein Feuerwerk um 16:30. Guckt mal wie dunkel bei uns ist um die Uhrzeit.. es war allerdings auch schon ne Stunde vorher so dunkel..

Last week we had a belated Thanksgiving on sunday. Because it was also the first advents day there were fireworks in the botanical gardens at 4:30pm. See how dark it is at 4:30.. well it was already dark an hour before that.

So und jetzt zu etwas neueren Geschehnissen. Am Donnerstag hats nun endlich geschneit und das hat sofort in allen Leuten die Laune gehoben. Blieb aber nicht liegen. Aber während ihr euch mit Xaver herumgeschlagen habt, haben wir vorgestern endlich Schnee gekriegt der auch blieb. Das haben wir gefeiert indem wir die südlichen Kollegen, die soviel Schnee nur aus dem Fernsehen kennen, nach draussen gezerrt haben und statt einer Kaffeepause eine Schneeballschlachtpause gemacht haben. Abends gings nach der Arbeit ins Kino, Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Sehr gut, ich fand ihn besser als den ersten und hab direkt Lust die Bücher noch einmal zu lesen. 

Carrying on to more recent events. Thursdays it finally snowed the first time and everyone got a lot happier. But it didn't stick. But while the rest of northern europe was dealing with a hurricane we finally got snow that settled on friday. We celebrated this by getting the southern collegues that have only seen that much a on TV and had a snow ball fighting break instead of a coffeebreak. After work we went to the movies to watch Hunger Games: Catching Fire. It was really good and I thought it was better than the first movie. I feel like reading the books again now. 

Gestern haben wir uns ein Auto gemietet und sind nach Stockholm gefahren um in Skansen zu gehen. Ein Freilichtmuseum auf der Museumsinsel über die schwedische Kultur. Total süß. Mit kleinem angehängtem Zoo. Im Moment ist dort Weihnachtsmarkt. Leider hat meine Kamera nach 2 Bildern keine Batterie mehr gehabt.

Yesterday we rented a car and drove to Stockholm to see Skansen. It is an open air museum about the swedish culture. Very cute. And it has a small zoo attached. They currently also have a christmas market. Unfortunately my camera didn't have battery left after 2 pictures..
